Australian Blues Music Awards

Australian Blues Music Awards (originally known as the Goulburn Blues Music Awards) are presented each year to recognise excellence in Blues Music in Australia.

Named after Chain, the only blues band to have had a national number one hit in this country, the awards are based on recorded product only. Judging is done by panel of judges representing the various states and territories.

Winners are presented with a bronze statuette modelled on the Chain logo of a defiant Ned Kelly figure breaking chain shackles.

The Awards were first presented in 1997 as achievement awards to Chain stalwarts, Phil Manning and Matt Taylor, Godfather of Australian Blues Dutch Tilders, Foreday Riders founders, the legendary Ron and Jeff King.

1998 first saw the Awards in their present format, with the Mighty Reapers taking out the bulk of the awards. Blues Diva, Lil Fi, was the first recipient of the female vocal award, the first of her two wins in the category.

Other winners of the much sought after statuette have been, The Bellhops, Kate Meehan, Collard Greens & Gravy, Matt Corcoran, Lloyd Spiegel, Fiona Boyes, Geoff Achison, Mojo Webb, Anni Piper and Bluezone to name just a few.

The Australian Blues Music Awards are now recognised as the industry's most prestigious honour with nomination numbers growing exponentially since their inception.

These Judges Panel for the Awards is independant of the Australian Blues Music Festival Selection Panel.
