Blues Hall of Fame 2004 Inductee - Dom TurnerThe Australian Blues Music Festival was pleased to induct Dom Turner (of Backsliders & Supro fame) into the Blues Hall of Fame at the Goulburn Visitor Information Centre on Sunday 12 September 2004 where he treated guests to a few songs. Festival patrons voted to recognise Dom for his Contribution to Australian Blues Songwriting. Blue Notes is the 2004 addition to the Blues Hall of Fame sculpture garden. The work is by Goulburn regional artists Kirstie and Dale Chalker and commemorates this contribution to Australian blues music. The artists were also present and acknowledged at the induction.
According to the artists, Blue Notes relates to the writing of blues music visually and conceptually. It is a collaboration between Kirstie as visual artist and Dale as musician. This work is positioned to introduce the passer-by to the Hall of Fame and the significance of blues music to Goulburn. Previous public artworks by Kirstie include Traces of Traffic pavers on the southern end of Auburn Street, Goulburn. Other sculptures in the Blues Hall of Fame are: -The Guitar (2001) by Ashley Hunt honouring Ron & Jeff King (Foreday Riders) as Longest Playing Australian Blues Band - The Piano (2002) by Sebastian Meijbaum honouring Don Hopkins for Being instrumental in keeping the Blues scene alive by founding the Sydney Blues Stage - Blues Singer (2003) by Brooke Maurice honouring Matt Corcoran who was voted Peoples Choice by the 2003 Festival participants, and -Ma Baby Gone n Left Me (2005) by Bill Dorman [recognising an Australian Blues Harp Player to be announced mid-2005] |
